Social Capital-Assignment 2-4

  1. What are some ways you can expand your social capital network to include others who are quite different from you? What might be some benefits for so doing?

Some ways I can expand my social capital network to include others who are quite different from me includes learning as much as I can about them. I can research more about dealing with different personalities and people from different areas. This will make me more familiar with them and identify points which would serve as a base of contact during our initial conversations. Another way would be to visit areas or places that would have certain interest groups who would be different from me. People who are nature lovers would most likely be found during their free time taking nature walks, hiking, camping, or visiting the zoo.

Some benefits for so doing would be I would be armed with the knowledge of how to deal with people who are different from me. I would also become more knowledgeable about such a person and in so doing, appreciate them more than I would have previously done.

  1. Reflect upon your Personal Lifecycle Plot and findings from your learning style and multiple intelligences assignment. How has your approach to learning changed over the course of your life?

Over the course of my life, I have learned that I need to gather as much knowledge as possible to be more desirable more so in my professional circles. Networking has also proven to be a very valuable approach to learning. Through social networks, I have learned that people are gifted and talented in various and/or multiple ways. Each person has something to offer that I did not have.

Additionally, I have learned different ways and sources from which I can get information. It has amazed me over time just how much information you can get out of your social networks. The best thing about getting this kind of information is that I get it when I am doing what I like to do best; networking.

  1. What legacy do you desire to leave? Why?

I desire to leave a legacy of change. This is because today, change has proven to be the most constant element and aspect of life. Over periods of time, things evolve and we need to get new ways of doing things, or learn such ways. Where I come from back in Africa, many organizations are rigid to change. This has made many people obsolete in their current jobs because of lack of fresh input to reflect a global arena. I desire to be among those who will go back and make a positive change to reflect current world trends in the business and professional world.
